In 2016, iLovee was an aggregator of Brazil's largest fashion, beauty and home decor e-commerce stores, while also producing beautiful content about the iLovee universe, bringing together the market's main trends, projects and opinions.
Project Overview
iLovee was the project that opened the doors to the great opportunities I'd have later on. It's the project that made me passionate about software engineering and taught me to always defend the beauty of software as an art, not as a mere tool. A project I hold very dear, both for the professionals I met and for the results we achieved.
The Challenge
The main goal was to migrate a completely legacy system — the famous spaghetti PHP, with SQL queries living in the same files as JavaScript logic with jQuery and HTML with inline CSS 🤮 — to a more modern system, plus a backoffice with many more features for creating content such as "Showcases" tied to articles about the brands behind the featured products, "Moodboards" to share inspiration and "Looks" to share the latest fashion trends, all with the goal of promoting products from major Brazilian and international brands.
The Solution
The solution was to build it from scratch using Phalcon PHP as the framework, with a database abstraction on Solr to deliver performance across more than 2,000,000 partner product search results.
